Revere and Respect:
World Kangaroo Day library Resources
World Kangaroo Day, held on October 24, is an opportunity to celebrate kangaroos and encourage understanding and respect for their place in the Australian landscape.
Libraries can take part by creating a simple display using the resources below. This can be as small or as detailed as suits your space.
Create a simple display
You don’t need a large setup. A small table, shelf, or noticeboard is perfect.
You might include:
A poster or images
Information about kangaroo behaviour
The Yuin Declaration
A QR code linking to a short video
Even a simple display can spark curiosity and connection.
Book display
Libraries may wish to create a themed book display featuring kangaroos, Australian wildlife, nature, or children’s stories.
Suggested inclusion:
Dot and the Kangaroo
Big Red Kangaroo
Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother, Too?
You may also wish to include field guides, picture books, and Australian animal stories from your own collection.
Colouring table for children (optional)
A small colouring table can be a fun way for children to engage with World Kangaroo Day.
You could include:
Kangaroo colouring sheets with pencils and/or crayons
A list of simple kangaroo facts
Using a screen (optional)
If your library has a screen or monitor available, you may wish to play one of the videos as part of your display.
Short, visual content can help bring the display to life and engage visitors as they pass by.
You could:
Play a video on loop
Display one video at a time throughout the day
Combine the screen with printed materials nearby
